Contemporary German Kitchen Transformation in Huddersfield

When the homeowner purchased their apartment in Kirkburton, they knew the existing kitchen would need updating before moving in. Originally installed by the developer when the building was converted into apartments, the kitchen felt uninspiring and didn’t make the best use of the available space. Storage was limited, worktop space was lacking and the overall layout didn’t offer the functionality they wanted for everyday living.

The brief was to create a more stylish and practical kitchen that would maximise storage, improve workflow and introduce a more contemporary aesthetic throughout the apartment. The result is a beautifully considered German kitchen that combines modern design with clever space-saving solutions.

Reimagining the Layout for Everyday Living

One of the biggest challenges with the original kitchen was the layout. While the room had potential, the existing design left valuable space underutilised and didn’t provide enough practical storage or preparation areas.

By completely reworking the layout, we were able to create significantly more usable worktop space while improving the overall flow of the kitchen. The redesign also allowed the oven to be positioned at a more ergonomic height, making everyday cooking more comfortable and convenient.

The finished layout feels far more spacious, functional and suited to modern living, proving that thoughtful design can make a dramatic difference without increasing the footprint of the room.

Contemporary Finishes with Industrial Character

For this project, the homeowner selected the popular Nobilia Riva range in Concrete Sand, creating a contemporary industrial-inspired aesthetic that complements the apartment perfectly.

Matching Concrete Sand laminate worktops were chosen to create a seamless and cohesive appearance throughout the kitchen, while contrasting Concrete Slate Grey splashbacks introduce depth and visual interest. The combination of soft concrete-effect textures and clean modern lines gives the space a sophisticated feel that is both stylish and timeless.

Maximising Storage Without Compromising Design

Creating additional storage was a key priority from the outset. The previous kitchen offered limited capacity, making it difficult to keep work surfaces clear and organised.

The new design introduces significantly more practical storage throughout the room, allowing everyday items to be stored efficiently while maintaining the clean, uncluttered appearance of the kitchen.

A particularly effective feature is the inclusion of an Elica Essential downdraft hob. Because extraction is built directly into the hob, there is no need for a traditional overhead extractor, freeing up valuable wall cabinet space and allowing the storage potential of the kitchen to be fully maximised.

Thoughtful Details That Elevate the Space

While the overall design is deliberately clean and understated, several carefully considered details help make the kitchen feel truly bespoke.

One standout feature is the continuation of the worktop material and matching upstand into the window reveal. This not only creates a striking design feature but also provides additional usable surface space behind the sink, making the room feel larger and more practical.

The kitchen also features a Bosch Series 4 black oven, a Quooker Fusion Square tap and a black Schock inset sink, combining premium functionality with contemporary styling.
