s Open-Plan Kitchen Transformation in Whirlow, Sheffield 

When this client began planning her new kitchen in Whirlow, Sheffield, the existing space no longer worked for modern family life. The kitchen suffered from poor layout, limited storage, outdated appliances and not enough worktop space, while the room itself was positioned in the wrong part of the house for the way the family wanted to live and entertain. 

When she enlisted our help, we focused on creating a bright, welcoming and highly functional open-plan kitchen with generous seating, improved storage and a much more sociable layout. 

Creating a More Social Living Space 

Located close to Forge Dam, Graves Park and the Peak District, this Sheffield kitchen project was designed around improving everyday usability while making the kitchen feel more social and accessible. The homeowners wanted a space that felt effortless to use, with accessible storage, practical pull-out solutions and plenty of seating for hosting family and friends. A large island with seating for four to five people now creates a relaxed social hub in the room, while the matching movable dining table adds flexibility for larger gatherings and entertaining. 

The redesign has completely transformed the kitchen from a purely functional space into a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyday living! 

A Modern German Kitchen with Warm Detailing 

For this project’s colours and materials we went with the contemporary Nobilia Riva range in a combination of White Concrete and Terra Concrete finishes with warm Havana Oak detailing. 

The concrete-effect cabinetry creates a sleek modern look, with the oak accents and warm undercounter lighting softening the design and making the space feel more homely and inviting. The kitchen is finished with stunning Dekton Marmorio worktops and matching splashbacks, creating a seamless and luxurious look throughout. 

The combination of textures and lighting gives the kitchen a sophisticated contemporary feel without losing warmth or practicality. 

Clever Storage Designed Around Everyday Use 

Practical storage solutions were a major priority for this busy household. The kitchen now includes a range of upgraded storage features designed to improve organisation and reduce clutter, including: 

• Pull-out larder storage  
• Large drawer storage  
• Internal bins  
• Upgraded cutlery inserts  
• Breakfasting cupboard for small appliances  

One of the standout features is the breakfasting cabinet, which allows smaller appliances like the toaster and coffee machine to be neatly hidden away, helping keep worktops clean and uncluttered during busy mornings.
