A Modern Open-Plan Kitchen in Stalybridge, Manchester 

When this client began renovating their home in Stalybridge, Manchester, the existing kitchen no longer suited the way the family lived. The room felt closed off from the rest of the house, the layout lacked flow and the dated design no longer reflected their style. When they came to us, our focus was on creating a spacious open-plan kitchen with dedicated dining and seating areas, centred around an island and integrated media wall and creating a much more social space.  

Opening Up the Home 

Located close to Mossley, Glossop and the Peak District, this project involved extending the rear of the property to completely transform the way the downstairs space functioned. The homeowners wanted a kitchen that could work hard practically while also becoming a central social space for everyday family life. By opening the kitchen into a larger living area, we were able to create a much brighter and more connected environment that feels perfect for entertaining and day-to-day living. 

A structural pillar in the room presented a design challenge for our team, but the island layout was carefully planned to help minimise its visual impact and maintain a natural flow through the space. 

A Modern German Kitchen with Industrial Style 

This kitchen features the Nobilia Riva range in a combination of stylish Concrete Grey and Concrete Slate Grey finishes. The textured concrete-effect doors create a bold contemporary look while remaining highly practical and durable for busy family life. Paired with 20mm Calacatta Venato Marble quartz worktops and matching splashbacks, the result is a sleek, architectural kitchen with real visual impact. 

The matching media wall helps tie the entire open-plan space together, creating continuity between the kitchen, dining and seating areas. 

Designed for Social Living 

At the heart of the design is the large island and breakfast bar, helping anyone preparing meals stay connected with family members and guests. The open layout allows conversation to flow naturally throughout the room, and the breakfast bar creates an ideal spot for sharing meals or somewhere to sit and relax during cooking. The integrated media wall enhances the sociable feel of the space, allowing the family to spend time together comfortably in one room. 

We also included some ambient E-motion lighting to give the kitchen a softer evening atmosphere once the main lighting is switched off.

• Elica Flame gas downdraft hob  
• Schock 1.5 bowl undermount sink in black  
• Black Quooker Fusion Square tap with Cube for filtered, chilled and sparkling water  
• Lemans corner storage solution  
• Ambient lighting throughout  

The Lemans corner unit helps maximise difficult-to-reach storage space, while the downdraft extractor keeps the area above the island open and uncluttered, reinforcing the spacious open-plan feel.
